CCC libraries subscribe to 3 streaming databases to support instruction across our campuses: AVON, Kanopy and Swank. See below for more information about each platform.
Please complete this form to request a title for streaming. We welcome instructor requests for media to support the curriculum and will attempt to fill all such requests, if possible. There may be circumstances (e.g. licensing restrictions, budgetary concerns, etc.) that prevent us from purchasing requested items. Please note that some titles may be unavailable for the library to purchase or license. Please see our streaming policy for more information.
The best option for sharing streaming videos with students is to give them the direct link to watch on their own device. All of our streaming platforms can be accessed on and off campus by all CCC faculty, staff, and students.
Many of the films in Kanopy, AVON, and Swank have special software that does not allow them to appear on a shared screen. You will be able to see the film, but students will only see a black screen. A few alternatives you might consider:
*Both Academic Video Online (AVON) and Kanopy allow the creation of clips, which generates links that instructors can share with students. Swank does not allow the creation of clips. Please see the following AVON and Kanopy support pages on how to create clips:
Some of our streaming films have Public Performance Rights (PPR) and can be used for on-campus social events:
Academic Video Online (AVON) is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary streaming video database that includes over 70,000 titles in a wide range of disciplines. AVON includes documentaries, interviews, feature films, performances, news programs and newsreels, and demonstrations.
To embed a video in BrightSpace follow these steps:
Kanopy is a video streaming database that provides access to many award winning films and documentaries, including titles from BBC, the Criterion Collection, Kino Lorber, and more. Some films in Kanopy need to be requested prior to access. We will purchase films needed for classes whenever possible. Once a film is ordered, it is usually available in a few days.
