Chimp & the River:How AIDS Emerged from an African Forest by David Quammen, 2015. Harold Washington Stacks (QR201 .A37 Q36 2015)
In his book, Chimp & the River: How AIDS Emerged from an African Forest, author David Quammen gathers the current facts and weaves them into a compelling narrative of the origins of AIDs and how AIDS spread to become a global pandemic. Researchers, scientists, and medical professionals are the heroes and heroines of this tale. They put their lives at risk to gather data and conduct the research. That research points to AIDS jumping from a chimpanzee in a Cameroon forest to humans in the early 1900s. An expanded chapter from his book, Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, 2012, Chimp & the River is short (176 pages) but dense with detailed information.
