Music Libguide

This Libguide provides access to resources that are specific to the subject of Music. Within this guide one may find helpful websites, links to tertiary sources, books from the KKC library, databases, videos, and more!

The study of music is a broad one, ranging over many genres and time periods as well as theory and criticism. For this reason, it’s difficult to give an introduction to the study of music that is concise and useful. You may want music materials for many different reasons. Perhaps you want to learn to play the guitar, or maybe you want to listen to a favorite album. Maybe you have a class that touches on music, whether theory, appreciation, or something else entirely. The library can fill your needs across all of these dimensions.

Where can I find music in the library?

The Library of Congress call number prefix corresponding to music is M, with the subclass of ML for literature on music. The books with these call numbers are located on the second floor of the library.

What resources are there for music online?

If you’re interested in music magazines, Flipster makes some available under the Entertainment category. You must be logged into your CCC account for this resource. For more academic discussions of music, JSTOR might be the ideal place to look, as it gives resources in the humanities and social sciences, the domains in which music is most often studied. This resource also requires you to be logged in. Of course, music itself is all over the internet, from YouTube to Spotify, and these resources are available to anyone with the ability to access the web.
