LIS 105 Spring Offering!

Featured Resource: Black American in JSTOR

"The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was an important milestone in the effort to achieve equality and autonomy for African Americans. In the decades that followed, Black Power, the Black Arts Movement, Black Nationalism, Separatism, and Black Feminism emerged as movements and grew in influence. Independent Voices provides scholars unprecedented access to writings and thoughts of those who led and participated in these diverse movements in Black American.

Independent Voices is an open access digital collection of alternative press newspapers, magazines and journals, drawn from the special collections of participating libraries. These periodicals were produced by feminists, dissident GIs, campus radicals, Native Americans, anti-war activists, Black Power advocates, Hispanics, LGBT activists, the extreme right-wing press and alternative literary magazines during the latter half of the 20th century."

Independent Voices collections, including the publications in Black American, are accessible through the JSTOR database.
