Located on the 5th floor, the HWC Library offers services and resources for all of the HWC community including research assistance, access to course textbooks, books for research or for leisure reading, a quiet space to study, curriculum support, and much more. Our Fall 2025 hours of operation are Monday - Thursday from 8AM to 8PM and Friday from 8AM to 4PM. Whether remote or in person, we look forward to seeing you!

Please note that the library will be closed during the interim.
We will reopen on Monday, January 12, 2026 when the spring semester begins.
The HWC Library wishes everyone a restful break and happy holidays.

In collaboration with the Wellness Center and as part of Harold Washington College’s Thrive Strategy, the library is participating in the Ready to Snack Initiative. Ready to Snack provides nonperishable snacks such as granola bars, trail mix, mac & cheese cups and noodle cups that students can grab from different locations throughout the building, including the library. Stop by the circulation desk, scan the QR code to enter your information and grab a snack.
Textbook didn't arrive in time for the first day of class? Not able to purchase a copy of a textbook you need this semester? Did you know that the HWC Library has a collection of current textbooks (also known as our Course Reserves)? Stop by to find out if the Library has what you are looking for. While items in Course Reserve cannot be taken out of the library, we have copiers and scanners available if you need specific chapters in class or at home. Please keep in mind that there may be instances in which the Library does not have a textbook being used in the current semester. Contact us for more information.
Learn more about the different areas of the library, the types of seating available and our current noise / cell phone use / food policies in our library space guide.

Chromebooks: Brought to you by a generous grant from Senator Richard Durbin’s office, these devices are available for 28-day checkout periods. Wherever you have access to WiFi, you will be able to access Brightspace, online course materials, library databases, and the Google Drive office suite. You can also access your Zoom courses, but must first download the free Zoom for Chromebook app from Google Play. If you need a Chromebook beyond the 28-day period, you can simply renew your checkout in the library. If not, return it and the library staff will do a factory reset to protect your privacy. For more information, please read the Chromebook Policy & User Agreement.
Calculators: The Library has a collection of graphing and scientific calculators that can be checked out for one day (24 hours). To find out what's available, visit our Circulation Desk.
Chargers: We offer a selection of iPhone and Android phone chargers. These are available for in-library use for two (2) hours and can be requested at the Circulation Desk.

The final due date for books checked out this semester is Friday, December 12. To avoid a fine that will result in a block on your student account, please return all library books inside the library or in the book drop outside the library's entrance by this date. We appreciate your cooperation.

There are two printer / copy / scan machines installed at the front of the library, across from the circulation desk. Print jobs can be sent from library computers or from personal devices. CCC users should have received an email with a pin code (search your inbox for "Uniflow" to find the email). You can also find this information by logging into your Uniflow account. Your pin code can be connected to your CCC identification card so that logging into print jobs requires just the tap of your ID card. For more information or help with the machines, see a library staff member.

Look who stopped by the pop-up library! President Lopez visited with librarian Versie Barnes and checked out our pop-up offerings. On that note, we wrap up the fall semester. We'll be back in January with books, handouts, bookmarks, candy and, of course, librarians!
