CCC Libraries Wikipedia Essentials Series

Wikipedia is one of the most accessed online resources, but many entries on underrepresented populations are lacking information. In an effort to increase awareness, and information sources, City Colleges of Chicago Librarians are co-hosting this virtual event Series on Wikipedia Essentials.

The event is open to all members of the CCC community.

Are you a more advanced Wikipedia user and looking for ideas on how to contribute? Don't worry, we have suggestions!

What is Wikipedia?

Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia project written collaboratively by anonymous volunteers. Anyone with access can write and make changes to articles.

Wikipedia has over 1.5 billion visitors per month. Featuring over 54 million articles, in 300 languages, it is the world's most popular reference source.

Wikipedia operates under "5 Pillars"

  1. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia
  2. Wikipedia is written from a neutral point of view
  3. Wikipedia is free content that anyone can use, edit, and distribute
  4. Wikipedia's editors should treat each other with respect and civility
  5. Wikipedia has no firm rules
